ABSTRACT

What will our housing look like in the future? And how might we address the systemic social inequalities that underpin and overlay contemporary housing problems? Chapter 8 answers these questions by considering demographic and environmental change in the context of globalisation and political conflicts. The major issues addressed in this chapter include planning for and dealing with natural disasters, the implications of climate change in the housing sphere and new practices that are designed to mitigate some of the long-term challenges to the provision of adequate accommodation in developing nations.
