ABSTRACT

This chapter presents and rationalises the combined CL/DA approach featured in this book. It also introduces the mixed methodology, which comprised attitudinal surveys and classroom corpora, and highlights issues and considerations that in the design and the data generation processes. Details are provided at this stage of the adapted SETT model (Walsh, 2006) which will be drawn on in the analysis to provide key contextual information relating to classroom modes and pedagogical functions for each type of usage under investigation. Following this, a demographic profile is provided of the twenty teachers whose target model practices and perspectives were investigated in this book. This offers key insights into their sociolinguistic and professional identities.
