ABSTRACT

About half of the children and adolescents referred to my clinic come with the question of whether or not they have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), either as a primary question or as a confirmation (second opinion) request. The term ADHD has existed only since 1980, but I have been seeing similar children going back into the much earlier days of my practice that started in 1970; then the prevailing question was whether the child or adolescent could be diagnosed with what was then called “Minimal Brain Dysfunction.”
