ABSTRACT
The birth rate in Zaporizhzhya province declined from 11.7 per thousand in 1991 to 8.1 per thousand in 1996.1 The Zaporizhzhya birth rate was in 1996 one o f the lowest in Europe. In 1993, the European countries with the lowest birth rates were Germany (9.8 per thousand) and Spain (9.9 per thousand).
