ABSTRACT

This chapter is about making the choice, knowing the potential for devastation or joy in coaching. It features Karpman’s Drama Triangle and how to find a way to coach when clients are feeling intense tragedy as a natural evolution in their lives. A case study is presented of what it takes to recognise whether a client context matches the coach’s values. This is a testament to the temptation and necessity of earning fees, with the compromises that seem compelling and yet are a violation. A study is presented of what it means to feel fear and to be frozen, choosing to fail, and then in a moment reversing this pattern and choosing competence and joy to deliver a highly prized academic qualification.
