ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores the genealogies and vocabularies, and to some extent the actual scholarship, orienting a number of neighboring artistic and mediatic fields that to some extent share their objects of study and their methods of interpretation. It aims to orchestrate a complexly layered conversation, a kind of polylogue, between arts, disciplines, discourses and media. The book examines the concept of border-crossing itself through a kind of recombinant choreography of trans-disciplines. In popular and mass-cultural terms, globalization evokes the intensified interconnectivities implied by the Internet, Social Media, Facebook, Hollywood blockbusters, along with low-cost air travel, smartphones, and Starbucks. Globalization brings prosperity in certain parts of the world and for certain sectors of their population, along with the digital revolution and all it has brought in terms of easier contact between individuals and peoples and so forth.
