ABSTRACT

The conclusion underscores the understanding that in addition to the discovery of previously unknown historical and cultural tenets, knowledge gained from the study of African dance systems can be utilized to validate prior unsubstantiated historical claims and refute fallacious notions. Additionally, in regions and cultures in Africa where written sources, African and non-African, are either scarce or do not exist, dance systems are virtually always an essential component of the cultural landscape. Lastly, the conclusion is a call to action urging scholars and students to consider African dance systems as primary sources for their research on African history and culture.
