ABSTRACT
Along with the airframe manufacturers, which entered the industry, there were also a range of manufacturers who concentrated on the production of aero engines. In this chapter, therefore, two of the most important producers of these vital pieces of equipment are examined (Henry Royce and Frederick Brant Rentschler). The manufacture of aero engines provided numerous opportunities for entrepreneurs but also some special challenges.
