ABSTRACT

The airline business has seen continuous rapid, although evolutionary, change over its last hundred years – through strong but stable growth enabled by a combination of new technologies on both marketing and operations sides of the business. Going forward, airline business models will continue to be shaped by these forces, but in ways that will no longer be evolutionary, but revolutionary. This book lays out the case for this step change. Revolutionary change will emerge from forces discussed in this book, forces that are moving ever faster to create change in two diametrically opposed directions at the same time. When persistent, dramatic change occurs in opposing directions, “earthquakes” happen.
