ABSTRACT

The structure of the book continues with the ideas from the previous chapter being applied to five case studies, three of which are continuations from chapter four, two of which are new. The intent of the chapter is to demonstrate the breadth and depth of thinking which is applied to the addressing organisational problems. The range of interpretations and different ways of thinking about organisational development are made clear. The chapter introduces the idea of some organisations as being ‘virtual’, i.e. not existing as legal entities but still having many of the characteristics that let us see them as organisations. This highlights the continuing emergence of now, less formal, organisations enabled by technological and social change. By the end of the chapter the reader will understand how the ideas have been applied to a variety of challenges and how they might use them in their own situation.
