ABSTRACT

In this chapter the five element model for considering autonomy is applied to four of the case studies from the previous chapters. Each case study explores the rationale for autonomy in the particular case, how that is played out in practice and the impact on the subject organisation. Again, dealing with the idea of the virtual organisation will let he reader comprehend the importance of autonomy in the behaviour of individuals in network situations. The reader will be able to apply the model to their own organisation and understand the behavioural, organisational and efficiency implications of different decisions.
