ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the idea of building a relationship of parents with their son or daughter, especially if they already have a strong connection with their kid. If parents have a good relationship with their son or daughter, he or she will be more motivated to listen to parents input, he or she will learn how to have positive relationships with others, and he or she is more likely to be successful in life. The chapter shows three ways the parents connect with their kids. The following are the ways: model who parents want their kid to be, relate in a way that matches their kid’s personality, and create an environment that supports their relationship. The chapter discusses the importance of parents language and that their actions are more important than their words. The foundational element of effective communication that motivates son or daughter is that parents commit to open, two-way communication.
