ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the silver-bullet or linear thinking and explains why a systems thinking approach is preferred for complex healthcare environment. It examines the steps in completing a Rapid return on investment and Value Assessment and explores the stage for the hard work ahead, developing the Transformation Road Map. Systems thinking are a growing discipline designed to tackle complexity and produce significant results as we change healthcare practices, processes, technologies, organizations, reimbursement, and business models. Systems thinking allows to more effectively examine complexities. Systems thinking encourage a holistic understanding of the enterprise and take a longer view of change. Systems thinking prioritize specific value levers and measure the level of change over time. Rather than in-depth, time-consuming analysis and preparation and planning for all these factors, a practical, agile approach for investigation and evaluation of options for value realization and/or creation is recommended.
