ABSTRACT

The available data show that small business activity began to increase in most industrial countries around 1970, a trend that seems to have been maintained ever since. Compared with large corporations, small businesses have increased their share of job creation, added value and even exports. In fact, it seems that in the last 20 years the trend in big business development has reached a kind of asymptote, followed by a reversal1, although we do not know if this new trend will continue, and further research is needed to verify the quality of recent data and thus the trend itself.
