ABSTRACT

Eco-phenomenology adopts a critical view of Deep Ecology, which as an ecocentric philosophy holds the potential to devolve into a form of metaphysical or organic holism, a view where the human being is not merely subsumed under, but is sacrificed to, the unquestioned dominant superiority of nature. Deep Ecology is a form of environmental philosophy focused on normative issues, expressing a “value priority system only in part based on results of scientific research.” The area of political philosophy is one of its concerns the ability to reassess norms through the practice of Deep Ecology holds the potential to influence politics in and through a change of mindset on the part of those involved. Phenomenology emerges in Edmund Husserl as a rigorous and serious method for dealing with issues relating to consciousness and ways of cognizing and hence understanding the self, the world, and others.
