ABSTRACT

The proliferation of human-centred design toolkits was a strategic response to the claim that anyone can be a designer. The accessibility of free design methods in the toolkits allowed people introduced to design thinking in a one-day workshop to continue building capacity. As digital tools become more prevalent in education and classrooms, designers are increasingly playing a role in defining how learning is delivered. The participatory design model challenges the idea that technological advancements will define the future of learning and classrooms, and instead promotes a system in which teachers collectively define future learning innovations, with or without new technologies. Relative Creative is a design studio based in Brisbane, Australia co-run by Tristan Schultz and Bec Barnett.
