ABSTRACT
My doctoral dissertation explored the ways in which first-time expectant fathers’ relationships with their own fathers changed as they themselves moved through the months of pregnancy and the first year of childrearing. One of the most salient themes that emerged from my research was the challenge of “giving what you didn’t get.”
