ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors apply the Brisbane Club model to analysing the likely effects of the mega-technology of artificial intelligence and the production technology it offers. They see as a result of this that artificial intelligence has profound implications as a technology which creates a substitute for the human labourer, both challenges and opportunities. The authors consider some limits to the extent of this behavioural change presented by non-substitutabilities between artificial intelligence and human labour. Artificial intelligence makes a new form of production plan possible – one in which artificial intelligence plays a key role. As meso-rules enabled by artificial intelligence begin to emerge and as existing connections between human workers and their employers are transferred to suppliers of artificial intelligence software and hardware, the authors can expect to observe a significant degree of disruption. The authors describe that artificial intelligence is a technology which mimics the process of human thought and human action as guided by human thought.
