ABSTRACT

This chapter proceeds to focus on mobile and wearable smart devices, rather than Internet of Things (IoT) applications, not because IoT applications are irrelevant, but because there is an arguably richer array of pertinent use cases to draw from. One of the most fundamental aspects of any economic marketplace is the transactions which occur within it. Every transaction represents an exchange of value between suppliers and demanders, that is, between producers and consumers. Before the advent of the internet, the number of physical marketplaces where people and businesses could come together to conduct commerce in any one industry was fairly limited. Fast-forward to the present day, and the internet of the Digital Revolution has drastically reduced the barriers to entry for entrepreneurs wishing to establish an economic marketplace, enabling them to create online platforms and storefronts. The ability of global sellers to access such large marketplace of potential buyers through online platforms has also enabled many businesses to experience hyper-growth.
