ABSTRACT
Chapter 5, “The social and economic context”, presents the entire universe in which the Italian Authority operates, from a general view of the country, to public administration, and including SOEs and other organizations that are subject to the Authority’s supervision. More contextual information is provided on comparable countries. Details are also given about public expenditure and the structure of the public administration. Such contextual information is necessary to develop specific indicators of both anti-corruption action and impact.
