ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the domestic resource cost (DRC) estimates for the surveyed firms. The computations are based on single year data collected in the field. It also explores the relationship between the DRC estimates and survey firm characteristics. The chapter investigates where possible these characteristics' influence on the DRC including an analysis of the DRC's relationship with the effective rate of protection (ERP). This is an obvious point of interest relating to one of the main objectives of the study which is to investigate the levels of protection generated by the system of controls and its impact on the efficient performance of manufacturing firms. The Pearson product-moment coefficient of correlation tests were conducted on all firms' DRCs against ERPs, age of enterprise, capacity utilisation, direct foreign exchange cost and foreign exchange intensity of production The DRC estimates summarised at branch level were analysed using regressions to assess their pattern.
