ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a Tech Company case in which someone who was very much a part of the industry culture and rose through its ranks to become upper-level management is that of Marissa Mayer, former CEO of Yahoo. She was neither fired nor did she resign under pressure; her exit came as Yahoo was purchased by Verizon. Some note Yahoo's performance as a factor in her not being considered a good candidate to lead another company. Many high-level executives can probably appreciate that one needs to be able to "manage" a company seemingly 24/7. Even outside of the office, one represents the company to the public and is the "face" of the company. So, this work ethic, her technical savvy and skills and proven successes would be highly esteemed in the technology sector.
