ABSTRACT

The qualitative part presents complementing findings on the interplay of local, national and European identities (7.1), the perceptions of Europe and attitudes toward the EU in comparative perspective (7.2) and instrumental, cultural and civic considerations in constructing European identity (7.3). The subchapters follow the same basic structure as the quantitative results in Chapter 6 , containing objectives, methodology and sample description, results and discussion. While the quantitative results have shown that among ethnic minority groups in CEE, young people are more likely to identify with the European Union than adults, the qualitative results shed light on the ways in which young people construct European identity differently to adults. Other than applying a generational approach, the chapter also conducts comparative analysis between the researched ethnic minority groups regarding the perceptions of Europe and the European Union, and the considerations based on which Euro-minorities develop European identity.
