ABSTRACT

The final chapter starts with a brief review of the previous chapters and establishes some of the synergies and overlaps between the key emerging themes. Second, it introduces and discusses a selection of future crisis and disaster challenges for sport. Third, the chapter considers the opportunities and issues for managing crises and disasters within broader leisure, event and entertainment spaces. Fourth, the concluding chapter outlines a series of conceptual perspectives on managing crises and disasters in sport. The global societal impact of the COVID-19 pandemic further highlights this urgency for a greater body of knowledge. The chapter concludes with five central challenges for those interested in scrutinising the disaster management of international sports events (ISEs). These multiple approaches will enable researchers, students and industry practitioners alike to explore the growing complexity that currently surrounds sport-related crisis and disaster management.
