This chapter will review the literature by surveying critical refugee studies, forced migration studies, transit migration, and transnationalism studies in relation to journeys of refugees. After framing the debate in literature on refugees, the chapter turns to the theoretical and conceptual tools utilized throughout the research. The rest of the chapter deals with method and methodology, as well as the selection of cases.
