ABSTRACT

In the phase of evaluation, before the treatment begins, one maps the patient’s problems, current life-situation, wishes of aid and expectations of treatment. The problem may for instance be chronic dependence: In social situations, the patient searches ceaselessly for signs of what behaviour is expected, and watches others’ reactions to himself. The patient and the therapist sometimes disagree on when the time has come to end: The therapist thinks that further treatment would be useful, while the patient wants to finish. The handling of such a situation has also got an ethical dimension. The treatment has helped her emerge from an inner withdrawal.
