ABSTRACT
School counselors should be continuously looking for ways to develop professionally. This chapter will provide resources about getting involved with professional organizations. The most effective professional development engages teams of teachers to focus on the needs of their students. They learn and problem solve together in order to ensure all students achieve success. School systems use a variety of schedules to provide this collaborative learning and work time for teachers. There are many professional organizations that a school counselor can get involved with. From national organizations to specific educational organizations, there are numerous organizations and they all come with a fee. The American Counseling Association is a not-for-profit, professional, and educational organization that is dedicated to the growth and enhancement of the counseling profession. The International School Counselor Association is a professional organization, which provides leadership and advocacy for the profession of school counseling in International Schools.
