ABSTRACT

As they near the end of their program, school counselors will have started applying for jobs. This is probably the most frustrating and worrisome task. A cover letter can serve multiple purposes. It can be an overview of why of school counselors are applying for the position, an introductory statement of who are they and what they value, or a short response essay. As school counselors know from their many years of schooling and working various jobs, they will need to have either a resume or a curriculum vitae (CV). Coming straight out of graduate school, their employers aren’t going to expect a CV. Resumes will be something school counselors write the rest of their life, because every job and other organization that requires an application will ask for one. School counselors should be updating it a minimum of once a year depending upon what they’re doing.
