ABSTRACT

The problem definition and action planning stages, discussed in the previous two chapters, are both action oriented – they involve doing things with people, and may even constitute interventions in their own right. In this chapter we will outline the ‘action’ stage of action research and will consider both ameliorative and transformative change. We will introduce two strategies for change (the furtherance of critical consciousness and the creation of alternative social settings). We will follow this by considering four more strategies for change in the next two chapters.
