ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the comprehensive analysis of land price changes in a fast-growing metropolitan city in India. It aims to collect information on land price changes in parts of Lucknow City since 1970; and to determine the main causes of these land price changes. The chapter examines the impact of observed land price changes on high and middle income group households in Lucknow. There has been a general increase in real land prices in the peripheral colonies in Lucknow City. Land prices tend to be highest in the public sector colonies because these colonies have been well served by the State authorities in terms of the provision of various urban amenities. In terms of land price changes, however, it is apparent that private sector land prices have been rising more quickly over the study period than land prices in the cooperative and public sector developments.
