ABSTRACT

This chapter concludes The Beatles and Economics by reflecting on the post-break-up careers of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. While each individual member was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the timing and justifications of their inductions reflect their varied careers and the wide range of contributions each made to the industry. The fact that no other act has been able to achieve the same levels of influence suggests the Beatles might be considered a black swan event in the recording industry. This concluding chapter, however, will show how long-term demographic and economic trends, combined with a unique combination of musical entrepreneurialism, helped fashion and sustain the Beatles and their revolutionary impacts in popular music, and how economics helps demystify the Beatlemania phenomenon.
