ABSTRACT

This chapter notes that management is responsible for the performance of a sport organization, and for the organization’s achieving its goals. Management of sport organizations has become more challenging in the twenty-first century, and the changing environments, the world that surrounds organizations, are marked by a new variety and intensity of domestic and international competition and the changing performance standards of quality, speed and flexibility, innovation and sustainable growth. The chapter also notes that the stream of management thinking has made contributions to our understanding of how to improve performance.
