ABSTRACT

Student life is about juggling competing demands to get a work–life balance. Socializing is a crucial part of student life, so it might sound boring to talk about routines. However, a routine that sets clear boundaries and balances study time with down-time needs to be created. Top athletes have a team to support them. The difference is, they don’t have to ask. It is just accepted that an athlete needs help to win medals. Universities and colleges usually have support services too. A quick online search will yield websites aimed at student support or life in general, including telephone helplines. Part of the learning process is knowing when to ask for support. Learning is not just about the facts and figures. A large part is how we handle stress and manage relationships. Building a support network is a key part of the whole learning experience and an important lesson for life.
