ABSTRACT

What happens as we take the rich pastiche of sights, sounds, images and feelings that were evoked in a field setting and represent them in words on paper? In this chapter I explore ways of interweaving our interpretations with our descriptions, leading readers not just to “see” with us but to grasp the meanings we made from what we saw. We can do this in ways that do not impose our visions on others but rather invite readers to contemplate what we offer, based on our direct experience and immersion in the field. Moreover, we can strive to do this in honest, fair and kind ways.
