ABSTRACT

When the WRA fault isolations were accurate, the number of Shop Replaceable Assemblies pulled from the WRAs was reduced, which reduced the workload on the SRA testers. That enabled the SRAs shops to maintain high credibility for their testers because they had adequate time for maintenance, and good SRA tester performance helped keep up the stock of Ready For Issue (RFI) SRAs. Motivation is an interesting variable in such technology applications, but it is not one which is simply or directly related to shop or system performance. Further, the moderating effects of information processing on motivation suggest that looking directly at motivation without understanding system IP will have little power to explain performance variation. The workload of Awaiting Maintenance WRAs never seemed to go away, and sailors often felt that whatever they did, there was no closure and no sense of accomplishment.
