ABSTRACT

Chapter 5, The Case Studies, details the four case studies foregrounding the research on supporting novice ESL teachers’ professional development through mentoring in this book. It presents a thorough explanation on the context of the case studies, detailed biographies of the four novice ESL teacher participants, as well as in-depth descriptions on the Native Speaker Programme, the mentoring programme participants participated in. In this chapter, the authors lay out the theoretical dimensions of the study by discussing about the construct of Furnished Imagination by Kiely and Askham (2012) as the main theoretical framework that informs the present study. In addition, this chapter describes the procedures of data collection and analysis of the research on the four novice ESL teachers.
