ABSTRACT

Chapter 7, Enhancing Professional Practice through Mentoring, continues the discussion on the four case studies, scrutinizing on the impact of mentoring on novice ESL teachers’ professional practice as ESL primary school teachers in their situated sociocultural context. Through the comparison between the four case studies and the existing literature, this chapter discusses how teachers’ participation and interaction in the community of English teachers participating in a mentoring programme enhance novice ESL teachers’ professional practice particularly on their classroom management, teaching and learning activities, teaching materials, as well as engagement in reflective practice. In addition, the authors include interesting discussion and anecdotes on the other side of the coin pertaining to mentoring.
