ABSTRACT

James Partridge described his experience of injury and burning in a car accident, and from his own experience developed a framework of advice and guidance for others. Simon Weston talked about his experience when the Sir Galahad was bombed during the Falklands War. Weston’s experience as a Welsh Guardsman who took part in the Falklands War is told in his autobiography, “Walking Tall.” He wrote about how he was injured when the landing ship Sir Galahad was bombed; he sustained severe burns to almost half of his body, and his face and hands were grossly mutilated. Like Partridge, Weston remembered every detail vividly, and the experience remained with him. Generally, professionals are referred to warmly and with gratitude. Some professionals, particularly the surgeons, were quite low-key and matter of fact, and their detachment caused some surprise. From time to time during the period of treatment and recovery, Christine was touchy, and inclined to bad temper.
