Psychopathology is the science which deals with disordered psychological processes, always bearing in mind that speech therapist use a term of convenience. Psychological factors may not be easily observable, but not to assume its presence would render speech therapist task of rebuilding all the harder, since therapist should be fighting an unknown enemy. As to the technique of psychological treatment therapist must refer to the textbooks. But therapist shall expound such particular procedures as are indicated by the special character of some speech disorders. It may be pointed out that in dealing with disorders in which actions are predominantly affected the technique must–apart from other aetiological methods–avail itself of such methods as involve action. The degree of stability implied in structural change which constitutes a given disorder, must be carefully assessed. On this assessment depend the line of treatment and the results obtained.
