ABSTRACT

The Russian people were compassionate, responsive, sincerely empathizing with those who were in trouble or in need, kind-hearted and peaceful. These characteristics are reflected in Russian literature, as well as in people’s everyday behavior and habits. The moment Liberty descended upon Russia as a result of perestroika and the introduction of democratic reforms, something really terrible and absolutely unexpected happened: almost overnight people changed. Security-wise, the most reasonable behavior for Russia in the foreign policy field would be to adopt a position of non-entanglement, or noninvolvement in blocs of states. The most probable outcome is that Russia will continue to muddle through trying to achieve a gradual transition to a free-enterprise system with significant government control over the economy. The drastic reform of Russia’s socioeconomic sphere in the interests of the average person will be his only chance to survive and consolidate his power.
