ABSTRACT
A series of online masterclass videos with Sue Buckmaster were created during the National lockdown in the UK in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These videos were intended to keep aspiring puppeteers creatively inspired during a time when theatres were closed, social distancing measures were in place and much face-to-face performer training had to shift to online platforms. The videos explored the themes of puppet whispering, making site-specific performance and adapting theatre for children. Every Friday on Theatre-Rites’ Twitter feed the company shares a ‘Puppet of the Week’ to celebrate and promote the talent of puppet-makers throughout the UK and internationally. The ‘Puppets and Objects’ Pinterest board is an ever-growing repository of over 2,500 images that have been gathered by Sue Buckmaster, showing a variety of different puppet styles and forms.
