ABSTRACT

Our modern space economy offers many challenges and opportunities for regions, cities and firms in all countries. In the emerging European network, the spatial and functional position on networks and the benefits from network use are increasingly regarded as crucial success factors for regions, cities and firms. In this context, spatial accessibility plays a prominent role. In analyzing the impact of transportation on the economic performance of different regions and urban areas, there is a need to use an operational and measurable index of accessibility in space. Before focusing on this issue, we will first illustrate the importance of accessibility (research).
