ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to study the dynamic process of industrial location in Swedish and Norwegian regions. This is done by comparing the regional location of economic activities. The process is empirically studied by means of a model which adheres to the tradition of relative urban dynamics (Batten 1985; Johansson and Karlsson 1990). The urban dynamics model is based on two supporting theories. The first is the central place systems model (CPS model) with references to Beckmann (1958, 1996), and Tinbergen (1967). The second theoretical background is a model of spatial product cycles (Hirsch 1967; Andersson and Johansson 1984).
