ABSTRACT

The role of entrepreneurial vision in corporate development has been documented through the identification of the evolution of SECOM under the orchestration of Makoto Iida. Iida’s business success rests on the cultivation of a corporate ethos which makes possible the operation of organization dynamics in the direction of the ideal goal which is itself changing in accordance with societal changes. While Iida, like other successful entrepreneurs around the world, can be labelled as an innovator, what particular behaviour made him successful? Iida had to recruit management personnel from outside the company, a problem shared with other new, expanding corporations. Iida’s dilemma has been to cultivate, among his employees, an innovative and challenging spirit which rejects existing values and fossilized business behaviour and seeks to replace them with new challenges firmly placed in the corporate strategy for the future. In implementing his vision, Iida was fortunate in having Juichi Toda’s support and dedication from the beginning.
