ABSTRACT

Living in a country with a scarcity of natural resources Makoto Iida was acutely aware that competitive advantage must be built largely on human resource development. The strength of his proposed social system industry, Iida reminded his staff, was the company’s integrated network system infrastructure comprised of the computer and the human activities for emergency maintenance and operation services. Iida felt that developing an international perspective on both the individual and corporate levels was essential for corporate and personal growth in the coming age of internationalization. The role of Tarui and other executives was to work towards the accomplishment of clearly defined tasks which were an integral part of the dynamic process towards the actualization of the corporate mission led by Iida’s expanding entrepreneurial vision. With the intention of cultivating a group of managers who shared the same vision, Iida introduced the first formal education seminars for branch and main office managers and guard supervisors in the autumn of 1968.
