ABSTRACT

Indigenous people, ethnic groups, and tradition communities often negotiate with members of the mainstream world. The views, goals, and perspectives of these outsiders, however, often clash with those of local people. When this occurs, misunderstanding, miscommunication, and conflict can emerge. In order to receive a fair hearing and negotiate on a “level playing field,” distinct groups of people need to communicate in ways that their mainstream counterparts can understand. By perceiving the differences between the various business disciplines and by envisioning the mainstream planning continuum of business, distinctive peoples can more effectively negotiate in empowering ways.
