ABSTRACT

Polish law provided that the United Nations Libraries in New York City and Geneva received copies of all government publications. Poland, like several other nations in Europe, has a long history of legal deposit legislation. The recorded law was issued in 1645 in the city of Gdansk, and in 1790 the first national law was passed by the Sejm. The Act reorganized the whole structure of library operations and organization in Poland. It also provided the new basic law on legal deposit. The other national depositories receive one copy of all of the above, except for items of a print run of less than 100, Braille literature, gramophone records and foreign publications printed in Poland.
