ABSTRACT

Data from a nationally representative survey has been used to explore digital millennials’ interactions with the Bible. This chapter considers churchgoing Christians who are particularly Bible orientated. The data produced by Bible-centric digital millennial Christians gives insight into a group who are passionate about the Bible, but we are not claiming they are representative of British Christianity. When considering their stance towards and engagement with the Bible, the Bible-centric nature and practice of the young adults was further seen, especially when comparing them with the groups. The data from the self-selecting sample demonstrates that within British Christianity there are those who are very Bible orientated. Bible-centric Christians were less digitally orientated in their general reading habits than the earlier churchgoing group. Digital technology did not dominate their Bible engagement, and this can be traced through the survey data: 71% of them preferred the image of the paper Bible compared with 18% who preferred the image of the digital one.
