ABSTRACT

The British survey indicates that all forms of Bible engagement, be that reading, listening or watching, are to be included. In an anthology exploring the place of the Bible in the USA, Mark Noll summarises what he considers to be the central finding of a large national survey carried out in 2012. The British survey, however, made clear that all forms of Bible engagement were to be included: personal Bible reading is one form but listening to the Bible in a church service or at a special occasion would be equally noteworthy. While just under half are identified as “Bible Engaged” or “Bible Friendly”, approximately a quarter are labelled “Bible Neutral” and another quarter “Bible Sceptic”. While further research is required to more clearly determine the exact size of each group, nonetheless, in general terms, a larger percentage of American millennials are positively disposed to and/or engaged with the Bible compared with British millennials.
