ABSTRACT

Digital millennials treat the Bible with qualified indifference. The people who were most likely to engage positively with the Bible were churchgoing digital millennials, although some non-churchgoers and those of other religions also treat the Bible in this way. With reference to the Bible, Clive Field notes “the relatively low level of Bible-centricism to be found among the youngest cohort of adults and the high level among the over-65s”. If levels of non-religion continue to rise indifference towards the Bible will become more widespread and the positive disposition towards it may reduce. A longitudinal study of one group, such as millennials, and their engagement with the Bible could track any developments. Most digital millennials were indifferent towards the Bible. Digital reading technology has not overtaken traditional technologies. Bible agencies, churches and parachurch organisations have invested heavily in the production of thousands of digital Bible resources.
